Competition Information and Rules

Overview

The Society welcomes images taken by camera, phone or any other photographic device in all of its competitions.  You must have taken the whole image and have the full copyright.  Manipulated images are welcome in most competitions provided you took the photo and did the manipulation.  Image manipulation is NOT allowed in Natural History and Documentary competitions where truth of the image is vital.

Royalty Free and Copyright Free images are not acceptable.  Images should be correctly and clearly titled (see Preparation of Entries).  In the Documentary and Natural History competitions titles must be factual, accurate and specific to the subject matter.  Latin names may be used for Natural History.

The Society organises three kinds of competition every season: championship, set subject and special.  The closing dates for entries and the dates of the competitions are shown in the syllabus and on the WHAT'S ON page of this site.

The Championship Competitions

Every season there are four championship competition evenings each season with separate print and projected digital image (PDI) competitions on these evenings.  There are no set subjects so members are free to choose any subject at will.  Marks awarded are totalled over all four heats in order to decide the winners of the Annual Championship Awards for prints and PDI.  Members compete for two trophies: for the Vera Becket Cup for the overall winner of the PDI Championship and the Centerary Cup for the overall winner of the Print Championship.

Set Subject Competitions

There are seven set subject competitions as follows:
